We made the socks we couldn't find...
Over a year ago, we had an idea. We wanted to make our own barefoot socks here in Aotearoa New Zealand. We wanted to use a local manufacturer, local merino wool, and fun, bold colours!
We wanted socks that were luxuriously soft, didn't squish our toes, didn't stink, and were secure enough to not slide around, but not so tight with unnecessary compression or tight ankle elastic that cuts off blood flow!
We spent over a year testing samples, making changes, getting feedback from others and deciding on colours, sizes and shape. And now they're here.
Read on for some further details and insight into these beautiful barefoot socks...
What makes our socks different?
So, they're not toe socks... what actually makes them barefoot socks?
Even if regular socks stretch well or the fabric is nice and soft, if they don't have an anatomical shape or are too elasticated, our toes will always take the path of least resistance and remain squished, simply because they're not going to spend the whole day pushing out against the tightness of the socks!
✅ Minimal compression – no tight elastication, so these socks won't squeeze your toes, provide “arch support” or cut off circulation
✅ Lightweight, not bulky – they'll act as a light second skin so your feet will fit easily inside barefoot shoes without giving you less room to move
✅ Natural stretch – enough elastication to stay on without restriction, and suit a range of foot sizes and shapes (we have made them in 3 different sizing brackets)
✅ Made to move with your foot – just as barefoot shoes are made for feet and enable natural foot movement, barefoot socks should do the same!
